Valdosta, Georgia, UPS delivery driver Raheem Cooper is being recognized for his heroic actions after helping an elderly woman who had passed out in her driveway amidst triple-digit temperatures. While on his delivery route last week, Cooper noticed the woman lying unconscious and immediately stopped, called 911, and stayed with her until an ambulance arrived. He then helped paramedics load her onto a stretcher before continuing his route.
Cooper's selfless act gained widespread attention after the woman’s family shared the story on social media, expressing gratitude for his help and noting that the woman might not have survived had it not been for him. The post describes how the woman had fallen while carrying groceries, which had spilled out in the intense heat. They praised Cooper for his kindness in even picking up the groceries afterward. Humbled by the attention, the delivery driver says he was just doing what anyone should do and he’s grateful to have been in the right place at the right time.
In recognition of his actions, he received a gift from a local furniture store, who decided to give him a piece of furniture he had been eyeing, free of charge. The store’s operations officer says it's important to acknowledge those who go out of their way to make the world a better place. Cooper is grateful for the recognition and says he’s been in contact with the woman’s family and that she’s now recovering.
