Early Wednesday morning in Des Moines, Iowa, Katy Beeson noticed a home on fire while driving with her daughter. She immediately sprang into action, banging on windows and yelling to alert the occupants, determined to wake the family so they could safely exit the home.
Another passerby joined Beeson, knocking on the front door as she continued trying the windows. After a few tense minutes, a woman inside responded and confirmed that everyone was getting out safely. Beeson later said she was only doing what she hoped anyone would do if their neighbor were in crisis.
Her nine-year-old daughter, Marley Wheeler, watched the rescue unfold from the car and says she’s proud of her mom, calling her a hero. Beeson hopes her actions inspire Marley to be brave when it matters. The family inside the home escaped without harm, thanks in large part to the good Samaritan’s quick and selfless response.
