A toddler wandering in traffic on Route 10 in Chester, Virginia, was rescued by a quick-thinking driver who spotted him just in time. LaToya Parham was stopped at an intersection Friday morning when she noticed children at a nearby bus stop staring behind her, leading her to see the three-year-old in the middle of the road. She quickly put her car in park, jumped out, and grabbed the child, who was holding a toy and walking between cars.
Chesterfield Police determined the toddler had wandered from a nearby daycare and had only been outside for a few minutes. Parham says the oncoming traffic had just started moving and likely wouldn’t have seen him due to his small size. Officers confirmed the boy wasn’t harmed despite the dangerous situation and the fact that he wasn’t wearing a coat in the chilly weather.
Parham believes she was meant to be there, crediting a two-hour school delay caused by snow for putting her in the right place at the right time. She says she was running behind while dropping her son off and felt grateful she was there to prevent a potential tragedy. Authorities are reviewing the daycare’s licensing and safety measures as part of their investigation.
