Last week, a pair of bystanders intervened to stop a carjacking attempt in St. Louis, Missouri, saving a woman and her baby. The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Friday at a QuikTrip convenience store on the southside of St. Louis, when a man allegedly tried to steal the woman’s vehicle while her two-year-old child was inside.
According to St. Louis County Police, the suspect jumped into the driver’s seat of the woman's car as she was putting air in her tire and tried to drive off. When she attempted to stop him, the man threatened her by raising his fist. Fortunately, Reace Jones happened to be nearby and quickly rushed over and pulled the would-be carjacker from the vehicle, preventing the car from being stolen.
As Jones put the vehicle in park, another bystander stepped in and held the suspect on the ground until police arrived and arrested him. Jones, who’s a father himself, says the incident reminds him that there are good people out there, that it’s important to look out for one another and to take action when you see someone who needs help.
