Social media users and celebrities are sharing their reactions to the news that Dawn Robinson, a founding member of En Vogue, has been living in her car for the past three years.

On Tuesday (March 11), Robinson shared a lengthy video on social media, during which she revealed that she's been living in her car for the past three years.

"This is not like, 'Oh my God, poor Dawn. She's living in her car. It's terrible. Oh, woe is me,'" Robinson said in the nearly 20-minute video. "I'm learning about who I am. I'm learning myself as a person, as a woman."

Robinson declined to provide details on what led to her living in her car long-term. However, the singer, who was living with her parents in Las Vegas, noted that she took shelter in her vehicle in 2020 when her relationship with her mother became turbulent.

After living in her car for roughly a month, Robinson said her former co-manager, who she declined to name, persuaded her to move to Los Angeles, where he rented her a hotel room for roughly eight months.

The former En Vogue star said she moved back into her car in March 2022 after the manager allegedly refused to help her find an apartment.

"I felt like he was playing games," Robinson said. "Sometimes I think people want to trap you and keep you in a situation where you're vulnerable and depending on them, and I wasn't the one."

Robinson co-founded the R&B group En Vogue with Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones in 1989. The group sold 20 million records worldwide and produced hits like "Hold On," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," and "Giving Him Something He Can Feel."

Rapper Slim Thug responded to the news of Robinson sheltering in her car, expressing sympathy for the R&B singer.

“She should never be in that position. Look at all the hits she’s made. With all those hits, she [should] still be making enough money to cover her rent," Slim said of Robinson on his Instagram Live.
